What is the biggest size camper you can go with a shortbox truck? is there such this as extenders?

I've done it. I put a length of square pipe across the back, thats chained and turn-buckled to the box hooks. I'm thinking about getting a HD tailgate extender for extra security, but it will have to be easy to remove.

better if you had a 4x2 instead of a 4x4. This will give you about an extra 300 pounds of payload

We have an adventurer 8'10" on our short box 3/4 ton, it was designed for our short box with the center of gravity being so far in front. Full bath, shower and only wieghs 2400 pounds. Andy, Nanaimo

I pull mine with a Subaru Forester. You could pull a lot more. A lot more. You ought to look at 10 and 12 foot boxes with your horsepower and extra springs.
The short wheelbase won't be a problem except on those funky highways where you are bouncing up and down because of the lowest bid contractor...

Will putting a 8ft camper (15000pd) on a 1999- 2001 beef up gmc truck (extra springs)5.3 , 4x4 automatic be of any concern to me,driveability wise, or would a long box truck be better. i only use it 20 days a year.
