Saltwater Fishing Report Campbell River area fishing report for week ending October 6, 2007.
Cape Mudge: Very mild angling pressure at the lighthouse this week as most angers are heading north to chase Chum. Feeder size Chinook are available at this time of year as they congregate to feed on bait holding at the light. The best time to fish is the ebb tide, trolling northwards.
The Hump: Fishing at the Hump is similar to fishing at the light right now, mostly feeder Chinook with the occassional larger fish.
Shelter / Willow Point: Feeder Chinook between Willow and Shelter Points. Keepable sized fish attainable if luck is on your side. Jiggers doing well with 4 oz Point wilson Dart or Jensen Stinger.
After some heavy rain, the Chum have started to wash through the narrows. Fishing has been getting better and better, with last Friday's fishing reported as being excellent. The weather Saturday and Sunday was poor so effort was limited. Coho and Chinook still being caught on a regular basis.
Beach fishing continues to be excellent. So far, this is shaping up to be one of the best beach fishing seasons for Coho in many years.
Good prawn Fishing available on the east side of Quadra, Near Twin Islands, around Mitlenatch Island and in Desolation Sound.
Courtenay Report: Chinook are available along the shoreline from Salmon Point southwards to Cape Lazo.
Prawning has been good as well with lots of fishers doing very well with a relatively short soak.
The Puntledge River is open for retention of several salmon species, check at Peter's Sports for more details.
Freshwater Fishing Report
Gold River: Multiple rainy days have pushed the Gold up into the range of typical winter water flows. Summer Steelhead, Coho and Chinook are all available for catch and release fishing.
Salmon River: Good numbers of Coho moving into the Salmon. Cutthroat fishing has been good as well.
Campbell River /Quinsam: good fishing in the Campbell and Quinsam. Coho have begun to arrive in good numbers. Effort is high with many anglers attempting to take home a fish or two.
Oyster River: Reports of Coho along the foreshore from Salmon Point to Saratoga Beach. In the River itself, Coho, Chinook and Cutthroat trout can be found in most pools.
Lake Scene: Cooler Fall temperatures have awakened trout and stimulated more active biters. large aquatic insects and leaches are a good bet right now for fly anglers, spoons and spinners are good for gear fishers.

Saltwater Fishing Report Campbell River area fishing report for week ending September 1, 2007.
Cape Mudge: By the time this appears in print, the lighthouse will again be open to fishing. At this time of year, fishing can be excellent at the light, with Chinook everywhere from 10 lbs to clean spawners that have not moved into freshwater. Try larger plus or spoons for the big fish, smaller plugs, spoons, or flasher/hoochie conbinations for the 10 to 15 pounders.
The Hump: This area has never really shut off all summer. Fishing has not been white hot here since June but there has always been a chance that you could boat a fish anytime the tide has been right.
Willow / Shelter: Producing steadlily between the Ramp at Big rock and Shelter Point. Fish are between 90 and 200 feet for the most part.
Good fishing along the shoreline from Big Rock to the Argonaut wharf. Special restrictions apply north of Hidden Harbour.
Good fishing near Mitlenatch Island and Sentry Shoals. Most anglers are trolling in this area but some jiggers have been doing well. Fishing has also been good off the east side of Quadra and around twin Islands.
The Tyee Count is now up to sixteen fish on the board at the Clubhouse, as of Sunday the 2nd. Many of the lucky anglers are new club members. Congratulations to all guides and anglers.
Fishing above the narrows has improved sharply the past ten days. Brown's Bay has been good for Chinook and Pinks. Deepwater Bay has been producing loads of Pinks with a few Chinook mixed in. Farther up-channel, Greensea Bay and Chatham as well as the bays off Nodales Channel have been producing Chinook, and Coho.
Beach fishing has begun to really heat up as numbers of Pinks and quite a few Coho have arrived at local beaches. Reports from several anglers of catching Chinook casting from the beach near Salmon Point.
Courtenay Report: Chinook are available along the shoreline from Salmon Point southwards to Cape Lazo.
Prawning has been good as well with lots of fishers doing very well with a relatively short soak.
Freshwater action has been good with most area lakes beginning to produce well. Cool temperatures are prolonging the early season, keeping water temperatures down and fish active.
Freshwater Fishing Report
Gold River: Water levels have been fish friendly this summer with many Summer Steelhead swimming into typically inaccessible waters. The fish are more spread out than usual but are less spooky due to better cover.
Salmon River: Cutthroat trout are spread throughout the system and will take hardware or flies properly presented to them.
Campbell River /Quinsam: A good number of Pinks have now made their way into the system. There is a lot of interest in these fish as they provide excellent sport on a fly rod or light gear rod. Occasional Summer Steelhead being caught. The early return of these fish is heartening.
Oyster River: Reports of Pinks along the foreshore from Salmon Point to Saratoga Beach. In the River itself, Cutthroat trout can be found in most pools.
Lake Scene: Cool weather is keeping fish in local lakes active when they normally would be sulking in the summer heat. Working the shorelines with dragonfly nymphs can be extremely effective under these conditions.
